No matter where you end up in Italy, you’re going to be surrounded by incredible things to eat. Rome is no different, of course, and while you can find just about anything your tastebuds desire, be sure to try these classic Roman dishes while you’re visiting.

Cacio e pepe from Emma

Cacio e pepe is a simple and traditional Roman dish. It’s incredibly tasty pasta dish and is made with just three ingredients: pecorino romano, black pepper, and pasta water. The pasta water turns the grated cheese and pepper into an incredible sauce that will make it hard not to choose this dish every time you sit down at a restaurant.

Carbonara from Il Giardino

Carbonara is another traditional pasta dish that is so decadent. The sauce is made with eggs which gives it this incredible creaminess and then salty, crispy pancetta is mixed in. It’s giving cheesy, bacon-y pasta and we’re here for it.

This gorgeous pastry is called maritozzi and it is the breakfast treat of champions here in Rome. This decadent pastry is made up of a classic brioche bun that is split down the middle and filled to the max with a sweet whipped cream. Suppli from Dar Poeta

This tasty little bite is called suppli and is the perfect start to any meal or a great snack to fuel all the walking you’ll be doing around the city. These fried rice balls are made with a delicious tomato sauce and can be filled with anything from the classic mozzarella to a cacio e pepe version with black pepper and pecorino.
